TANSTAAFL. Free aint free. Obviously, as a libertarian, I think this is an awful way of doing it. However, as a bleeding heart libertarian, I am sympathetic to the notion that the government, through its meddling, has made the poor more poor, the middle class more poor, and has raised the cost of education many times that of inflation, which was also partially caused by government. That is harm, caused by the government. This means harm caused by the people who voted for this and participated in the system. as a libertarian, when someone does harm to another, the victim deserves reparation. Thus, the United States government (you and me), who have caused the harm, owe people reparation for that harm. We own this harm, even if we didnt vote for it, assuming we are voters and assume the mantle of citizens (If you dont vote, feel free to keep complaining). Anyway, I think justice requires we fix this in the best way possible. I see Obamas plan as a bad attempt that that. I would prefer to just give people money and thus, support a Universal Basic Income as least bad choice to rectify this situation. Not perfect, but much better than free education.
