TARABA POLITICAL CRISIS! Northern Elder Flays Jerry Gana, others; Member of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Solomon Dalung, has told Professor Jerry Gana and other party chieftains to bury their heads in shame for insisting that ailing Taraba State governor, Danbaba Suntai, is fit to resume work. Dalung, a former council chairman in Plateau State, and ex-aide to the pioneer national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, also urged the people of Taraba, to shun politics of religion, insisting that what is currently playing out in the state is all about religion and 2015 general elections. Drawing parallels between the present political situation in the state and what happened during the short-lived tenure of late President Umaru Yar’Adua, he said: “A power cultled by the wife of Suntai has re-enacted the Yar’Adua drama but this time with a more primitive and crude desire to subvert the sanctity of the Constitution, in order to prevent the Acting Governor from taking over power due to protracted ailment of Danbaba Suntai.” “This power cult is manipulating religion as basis of their actions and not the rule of law or the Constitution. Look at the people that were involved in the drama of evacuating Governor Danbaba at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, last Sunday, namely, Prof. Jerry Gana, John Dara, among others, even made statements on the state of the health of the governor. Yet, none of them is a medical expert. Jerry Gana is a professor of geography, yet he attested to the mental capacity of Suntai to govern. What a show of shame! “If Danbaba was normal, why was he evacuated from the aircraft instead of disembarking by himself? What business has Jerry Gana and John Dara, who hail from Niger State and Kwara State respectively in the affairs of Taraba State, if not dirty religious sentiments? They were at the forefront of mobilising support for the Constitution to be followed in the case of Yar’Adua. But here, they are conspiring with a power cult to subvert the Constitution. Why are they doing so?” he asked rhetorically. Justifying his claim that the whole drama was about 2015, the Jos-based activist said, “Senator Emmanuel Bwacha wants to be governor in 2015, but Suntai’s ailment might not favour him because the Acting Governor is a threat to his ambition. Therefore, he will prefer a Suntai to govern by proxy even if it will be at the disadvantage of the people in so far as it will facilitate his accension to power. “He will stop at nothing to justify the perpetuation of governance by proxy in Taraba State. He is sleepless over his ambition, which the Danbaba scenario offers. But in the face of all these, where do we place God, if I may ask? Dalung advised the Acting Governor to work hard to reconcile the different interests in the state and avoid taking any step that will lead to crisis. ------------------------------------------- Follow Us On Twitter @Taraba_In_Focus
