TAUPO FISHING REPORT 13-09-2013 FLY AND GUN A Patchy week again this week for the boaties as the weather has been very unsettled and we have had some pretty harsh winds to contend with at times, so not an awful lot to report back with as far as the lake fishing goes . Those that have squeezed a few hours in between squalls have done well again and the fish still seem to be quite deep at the 120-140 feet mark. The Harling has been going very well, but the winds have been an early starter this week and curtailed a lot of the Kayakers and boats from leaving the harbours. Size #8 and #10 Green Orbits seem to be the bomb again this week for the Harlers just fishing the drop offs at 4 to 8 meters deep. The fly fishing has had another awesome week with lots of numbers now coming through, good quality fish are being caught with many fish in excess of 5lb we have seen customers photos of quite a few easily in the 6-7lb bracket from the Tongariro most of the numbers we have seen on the Tongariro are being caught in the lower sections if you want some nice fresh fish then you should try your luck in the lower beats at the moment before the fish get to the infamous bridge pool. The other local rivers are also still going well with some nice fresh Westerlies pushing some big fresh fish up the Waitahanui , the Hine is still going well but has massive foot traffic at the moment so be prepared for lots of company and many of the fish are now quite dark in this river. As I write this on the Tuesday they are forecasting big rains for the end of the week this is sure to bring some good numbers of fish through as many of the local rivers are very low and clear again, there are still plenty of fish left to run this winter as history tells us we are still only half way through the spawning runs traditionally September can be one of the best months of the winter , if the current forecast of cold and wet is true then we are in for a blast in the next few weeks . Reminder that the new season National Licence is due 1st of October and we now have licences availiable. Tight lines to you all Gary Lyttle FLY AND GUN
