TAX DOLLARS GO TO FUNDING CLIMATE CHANGE G20 countries have disregarded their pledges in 2009 to phase out public subsidies for the fossil fuel industry, and are currently spending $88 billion a year in taxpayer money to fund the discovery of new gas, coal, and oil deposits around the world, according to a new report published Tuesday by the Overseas Development Institute and Oil Change International. Imagine how far $88 billion would go toward building non-polluting solar, wind, tidal and geothermal energy sources that would actually help diminish the rate of global warming, or simply planting millions of trees that would eat some of the carbon.
