#TBT Its hard to top my childhood pic from a month ago, but I think Ive done it. Please tag anyone Ive left off. One of the best times of my life. Coaching, mentoring, and learning from these young men. We won the league twice in my 4 years of coaching the Cardinals. The first time we were an underdog but had the freak of nature Lucas Williams that is the best Little League player Ive ever seen. The last year was a team that was built over a few years with hours upon hours upon hours of practice (ask the parents. We worked hard and they were probably sick of me!) and teaching them the same thing they learn at paid-for lessons. My son Jacob led the league in practically every statistic category. Very proud. Some of these kids stuck with baseball and did great. Others were very successful at other sports. Proud memories. When Jacob is done playing, I cant wait to go back and do it again. Too many good memories to list them all. A few that stick out: -2008 championship game. We are visitors and winning by 1 I think with 2 outs in bottom 6th inning. Other team has bases loaded and hits a towering bomb to center. Erick Mills goes back to the warning track and catches it to end the game. -2011 team in semi finals and its a tight game. Jacob Mills and Kyle Fish go yard back to back to open the game up -2008 year were practicing at Wolf Run and Lucas Williams has hit so many HRs (the balls are lost and ruined since they end up in the creek) that Harover makes him hit left handed. He then puts 3 more in the creek that way so we make him quit. Practice over. Lol -2008 semi final game my man Jeff Collins climbing to the top of the 40ft fence in celebration. - Parents verse kids games and cookout. - Paul Heflin s support and keeping my butt in line when I got too crazy. - Lastly, taking players that either were about to quit baseball or just didnt perform that good and had .067 or less batting averages and turning them into .350-.750 hitters and having fun. WHAT A GAME! Im teary eyed and a tear just ran down my check as I finish this last sentence.
