TBT Look at this cocky 17 year old kid! 1995 and I was already shamelessly self-promoting! I had a tiny picture portfolio and this goofy tape I had a wedding video editor make. I took them to NY and LA and sent copies to Rick Baker’s, Stan’s, ADI, and a couple of other big creature shops. Cut to 2000: I had just graduated with my M.E. degree and, after spending summer school breaks finding gigs in LA, finally talked my way into Stan’s by going through a soul-punching interview with J. Alan Scott (then Mechanical Department Manager at Stan Winston Studios). Started working the forklift in Stan’s warehouse, worked my way into the mech department, and ended up getting my SAG card puppeteering on the set of A.I.. THE BEST PART: all of the mech department guys were eating lunch and Alan Scott brings out this white VHS tape and plays it for us. It was my goofy old reel! He’d kept it for years!
