TBT: Todays throwback (this month) marks 2 years since our stalking case settled. I tend to forget how long its been since I posted about this ordeal here. And seeing as Ive a few thousand more friends and followers since 2 years ago , Im sharing this experience as it may also be a reminder to each of you to more carefully screen the content you share here in social media. Often people in box me thanking me for my messages of inspiration, humor etc. And those messages occasionally end with a question of but why are you so guarded/private? Read carefully my friends. About 3 years ago I , a couple of family and friends chose to innocuously publicly post / exchange info on our pages about a hotel we would be staying at on the West Coast for our vacation. In doing so , we revealed WHERE and WHEN we could expect each other there as well as who made arrangements (myself at the time). Regrettably , some random thirsty TRAGIC psycho (white , mid 40s, gay male) decided to use my first and last name from my Fbook profile and contacted the hotel? He then showed up at the hotel ascertained more personal info (room number) and waited for my arrival. Fortunately we had a last minute change of plans and it was only I who arrived initially , instead of my son along with my friends and family. Long story short a confrontation took place and assault charges were filed and we sued the hotel for complete breech of security for releasing reservation info unauthorized . During this nightmare Id removed all family pics/son all location tag and more from my online profile, and started only using first name and initials. This litigation took the better part of a year, and remains a primary reason why I warn others to ALWAYS be cautious of what and how much personal info you share here. Social media is an awesome medium, when used appropriately. And I remind everyone, those who matter , arent obsessed with selfies, daily skypes, how quickly they can get your phone number, nor hourly texting with you, but instead they take the time to have a few substantive conversations with you. If you truly want to know a bit more about me, and others DONT BE LAZY...lol (no one is the sum of a few profile pics and few sentences on twitter). Pay attention to topics I engage with interactive responses with my friends coworkers and followers on a weekly basis. Remember , The best and most valuable relationships have been those formed organically , not forced.
