TEAM CHELSEA – COMMUNITY PLEA FOR HELP As you know, Team Chelsea is a volunteer lost pet search group within Durham Region. Our goal is to help lost pets get back home, and help homeless pets find a new forever home. On many occasions we have been asked to assist in other areas, such as provide temporary housing for a beloved pet should an individual be in a crisis situation or need to stay at a shelter where pets are not permitted. Sadly, there are many individuals and families that do need help but often resources are limited or they do not qualify. There are many people also who are homeless and do need assistance for themselves and their pets which we are happy to provide them with to help them get back on their feet. I am asking this group for help for another individual who is in crisis and I am hoping that through this large group of caring individuals that we can work together to help make a difference in the life of this lady and her pets. This lady lived alone with her pets and has been without a job for sometime now and has no family or friends for support. Sadly, she has been evicted and the bailiff has changed the locks on the door. This lady is in the hospital receiving care. Her pets are still in the apartment but we have volunteers there now trying to help them. We also have a volunteer in place who has offered to house this lady’s pets until she can get back on her feet and they can be reunited. Technically, this lady had lost all her possessions and belongings as they are now the property of the landlord and they legally can dispose of all her belongings. Fortunately I have been able to make an agreement with the landlord to be able to have access to this apartment to pack up and remove her furniture and belonging’s otherwise she would loose everything that she owns. And for that, I really do appreciate the landlord’s Cooperation with this matter. Once she is released from the hospital she will be staying in a shelter until she can find a place to live. She will have approximately $ 630.00 per month to live on, until she can find employment. Out of this $ 630.00 she has to pay rent, food, etc. This is where we need your help. • We need volunteers to help pack up the belongings in this apartment. • We need people with trucks or a moving company willing to donate their time to move her possessions out of the apartment. • We need a storage facility to store her belongings for an undetermined amount of time. • We need to help find a suitable place for her to rent that is affordable with her budget and that will allow 2 indoor cats. • We need financial donations to assist with costs/ needs of this lady and others in emergency crisis that have pets. • We need to have the apartment emptied and the contents in storage by Sunday November 16th 2014 at the very latest. I know that this seems like a lot to ask for but I know what a great group of caring people there are in our Team Chelsea community. I will be opening up an emergency crisis bank account in the next day or two, so that we may be able to assist those people with pets who have no where else to turn. During the past couple of years, we have encountered many various situations of people and pets in dire straights. One example was of a homeless man and his dog that were sleeping on a park bench in the middle of February. We were able to get him and his dog a motel room for 5 days until we could make arrangements to get them both safely delivered into the care of family who lived out of the area. We are very fortunate in so many ways but there are those that do need our help. We would really like to be able to help someone that is in need through a rough time and give them the support that they need. Please call 905 666 4676 if you can help. I will continue to be in touch with the case worker at the hospital to give updates on our progress. I know that we can make this happen, and truly do appreciate your support and your help. Thank you, Janet @ Team Chelsea. 905 666 4676
