TEAM NEWS RESERVES The reserves played twice last week. First game was at home last Wednesday to Dungannon Swifts. It was a 3-1 defeat with Dungannon scoring all three goals against the run of play. Warrenpoint played well with David Anderson the man of the match. On Saturday then an away trip to Cliftonville which ended in a heavy defeat 7-1. However, the game could have went a different way had to clear penalty’s been awarded when the game was a nil nil. Kyle Rendell argued after the game that at least one of the Cliftonville players should have been sent off. Then the punishment started as more poor decisions led to a 1 nil lead at half time with a clearly offside goal. The decisions affected the Point lads who did not appear in the second half with the heads down in what is a highly competitive league. UNDER 17S The Warrenpoint under 17’s played Coleraine down in the Dub in Belfast on Friday night last. Coleraine started with a high tempo passing the ball quick but couldnt penetrate the seasiders back line. The ‘point boys were on top for the rest of the half with Jason Sloane scoring a well-deserved goal, tucked in to the bottom corner. Warrenpoint started the second half well with Daniel Rowland being taken down when he was one on one with the goalkeeper. The referee gave a penalty which was well taken by Daniels brother, Jamie Rowland. Warrenpoint created a lot more chances and could have been four or five mill up. Matty McCreesh came off the bench to give Warrenpoint a third goal. He took it around the keeper and smashed it bottom corner. Overall Warrenpoint played very well with the back line being very solid and the keeper Michael Nugent pulling off, in particular, two brilliant saves. Final score, Warrenpoint 3-0 Coleraine. UNDER 13S The under 13’s took part in their first league game of the season in the Lisburn League. The opposition was Hillsborough. Unfortunately the result was a heavy defeat. Jamie Sloan scored a great free kick for Warrenpoint whom had several chances but Hillsborough played really well. UNDER 11s Warrenpoint Town under 11s played their first game on Saturday in the Lisburn league against Lurgan Town. The team played good attacking football from the kick off. Man of the match was Eoin Devlin who had a magnificent debut for the Town. Another debutant was Shane Haughey who capped a great display with a well taken goal. Other scorers were Seamus McNulty and David Ruddy. Davids goal was the pick of the bunch finding the top left corner of the net from 25 yards. The team played their usual high tempo passing style and dominated most of the game. UNDER 10S The under 10’s travelled to Banbridge for a mid-week friendly and it proved to be a good work out for the young point lads. The game got off to a slow start with both teams having chances on goal with great goalkeeping from both teams keeping the game alive. A back pass from Banbridge was intercepted by Stephen Reid and that gave Warrenpoint the lead going into the first break. Banbridge fought back well and showed great skill on the ball at times and it was no surprise they got an equaliser. Another good midfield performance from young Callum Giles and James Murphy edged the game in the favour of the seasiders and it wasnt long before Oisin McStay got the points second from a good move down the right and then a third from Stephen Reid came shortly after following some great link up play with Evan Doyle. A forth was scored by Donagh Murdock in the last few minutes giving the point a well-deserved win going into the games development centre next week.
