TELL ME WHAT TO DO???????? ONE HOUR FREE PARKING IN LAUNCESTON… ARE YOU GOING TO VOTE?? Hello my name is Robert Turner, over the past 2 months I have fought hard for changes in the CBD. One of the major issues was a parking initiative. Most businesses in the CBD would have received the City Prom survey today emailed to them... I URGE you to read the attachment before you complete the survey. The Council have stated that one hour free parking will cost the Council over $700k a year, however, a similar trial was given a very limited chance in 2006, this trial went for around 3 months and a mere $2,245 was spent on advertising the initiative, it was estimated that the council were to lose $400k per annum in revenue, so why is it then that the council will stand to lose over $700k with this trial, have parking fees in the council owned car parks almost doubled since 2006? No, there has not been a fee increase at all, this is a play on the numbers by the councils parking department. I was making strong progress with the alderman, however, when I needed to ask the council for financial information to build a case to put before the alderman- I was met with resistance- some questions were answered- but the further I got the harder the council became to deal with until they told me that they would only answer my questions through City Prom- this was the beginning of the end. City Prom eventually took over the whole process, I did try to prevent it, I eventually had to withdraw my support from City Proms campaign- ironically I actually started the campaign!! What I find ridiculous is that the council had forced me to align myself with City Prom when it is their budget that will have to suffer for the 1hr free parking trial- how enthusiastic is City Prom supposed to be about this when it is their budget on the line? Also, how are City Prom supposed market this when their budget is spent/depleted from funding this? It is a total conflict of interest by the council…………. If you are unhappy or concerned with what has happened let me know, we need your support. I still have a 1,147 signature petition, only 1,000 is needed for a public meeting- I can make this happen, I would make sure that all concerned above would be in attendance. Signed, Robert Turner Concerned citizen and business owner. P.S. Please remember that 1hr free parking works that well in Hobart that they increased it to 90minutes.
