TEN STEPS TO CHANGING YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO FOOD: STEP FOUR Stop using foods for non-nutrient purposes and learn other ways to cope with stress. First, become aware of when you eat for stress. What other strategies could you begin implementing? Call a friend, do some housework? Whether you should visit a counselor, begin a daily exercise routine, and/or develop a contemplative (meditation) practice of some sort, stress management is essential to a healthy relationship with food. And then, just as in STEP TWO, you can begin to see food as FUEL for your incredible body, instead of as an emotional crutch. (For previous STEPS, see my wall.)
