#TESDA free assessment and certification begins May 2014 Technical vocational graduates and trainers, workers, and returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) needing assessment of their skills for possible employment or promotion may take advantage of the free service offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). Starting in May up to October this year, TESDA will conduct the National TVET Competency Assessment and Certification (NATCAC), targeting 60,000 beneficiaries all over the country. Industry practitioners, graduates and even returning OFWs should avail of this free service because it will affirm their skills competency, Secretary Joel Villanueva, TESDA Director General, said. Having the certification in their chosen field can lead to jobs for those seeking employment, or an upscale position in their current work, Villanueva said. Thousands have already benefitted from TESDAs free competency assessment and certification in the past years. This years NATCAC program has been initially identified for the following sectors on the schedules below: May 12 - 23 Automotive, Land Transport, and Heating, Ventilating Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC) Sectors July 14 - 25 Construction and Metals and Engineering Sectors August 11 - 22 Tourism, Electronics and Information Communications Technology Sectors October 13 - 24 Agri-Fishery/Food Processing and Health and other Social Community Development Services Assessment for other sectors or qualifications may still be scheduled by the TESDA regional offices and provincial offices during the assessment period. Villanueva said that the target 60,000 candidates for this years NATCAC may be composed of trainers of private and public Technical Vocational Institutions, including TESDA Technology Institutions, Local Government Units, and other government agencies providing TVET programs and private enterprises with registered TVET programs; Department of Education trainers; public utility vehicle drivers; workers/industry practitioners/professional/career shifters who want to undergo competency assessment; returning OFWs/Filipino expatriates with relevant experience who want to undergo competency assessment; and, industry practitioners who are prospective competency assessors. Applicants may get application forms and list of requirements for assessment from the accredited assessment centers identified in the Regional Qualification Map or the nearest TESDA offices. The forms may also be downloaded in the TESDA website (tesda.gov.ph). The identified accredited assessment centers or TESDA provincial and district office will process the application for assessment and inform the applicants of their schedule.
