TEXT OF ADDRESS BY DR YUSUF MAITAMA SULE 1991. we are gathered here to salute, pay our homage and respects to whom all these attributes and much more are due. the galaxy of the cream of the nigerian society here present is perhaps the biggest gathering of its kind in living memory. every single soul that matters friendly or otherwise with the person of sir Ahmadu Bello, of blessed memory is assemble here. this bears eloquent testimony to the noble ideals which premier lived and died for. Here is praying that our action, later this morning, will do ample justice towards the singular move aimed at immortalising the indomitable, irrepresible, indubitable and undisputable architect of modern northern Nigeria. without doubt he it was who commenced the process of the actual welding of Northern Nigeria eventually helping to make it into the cohesive force we know it to be today. Sir Ahmadu Bellos monumental contribution to the balancing act on political trapeze of modern nigeria are inestimable in as much as they are inviolable and invaluable. please allow me to say, with thorough conviction, that sir Ahmadu Bello was the most able and soundly astute admistrator produced. in this regards, no amount of honour bestowed upon this illustrious son, father and luminary of northern nigeria is too great. the sardauna, as i knew him, was pragmatic even if at times tenacious in his dogmatic views about the northern nigeria he was perceiving. He was a visionary and politically prophetic in his thoughts. A realist on the course of northern nigeria yet highly visionary in the concept of a strong and virile nigerian entity. sir Ahmadu saw no need to pretend that he was anything other than he was. the sardauna was assiduously energetic and indefatigable to many he was an enigmatic power house who serve as a tremendous inspiration to many who were more youthful than himself. A dogged fighter over any just cause he was convinced on. Resourceful and almost providently endowed with fountains of ideas. An astute politicians who hardly conceded or gave any quarters to adversaries. A born fighter and always a winner who hardly had or knew failure in his dictionary. Vitious, chivalrous, benevolent, dignified, august and contagiously charming. Sir Ahmadu Bello was majestic, persevering. he was a blend of modern and traditional personality. he saw northern nigeria as his extended family and ardently toiled often through the nights to serve this family. this was mostly at the expensive cost of his own immediate family especially as regards worldly comfort and satisfaction. An ardent believers in information flow. Sir Ahmadu Bello was throughout his life, fundamentally opposed to the idea of ethic particularism. he greatly believed in coalition between the two major belief, system of the country i.e islam and christianity. he always convinced that animism will evolve natural christianity or islam. His blend of political and administrative skills were highly pragmatic. Late Ahmadu Bello was quick to anger but quick to forgive. Serupulous in matters of public finance yet generous with personal finances. Sardaunas was simply a master of blending of forces, old and young, new and old-all part of northern nigeria christians and muslims. Ahmadu Bello reached out to all personally. His approach to opposition was always by way of trying to reach and win them over to his side. Sir Ahmadu Bello was enormously self-confident of success politically and in spheres of socio-economic development. The sardauna had no qualms or regrets over his uncompromising stance over the issue of northernisation. He was highly disciplined, dedicated and competative One of his many great attribute is the belief that leadership should not be a self -enriching exercise and ultimately a ruler/leader is responsible to GOD Almighty for all his action. tanks.
