THE ALBUQUERQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FOOTHILLS AREA COMMAND SEEKS A GRANT-WRITING INTERN POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision, primary responsibilities include preparation of proposals and grant applications, and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities in the areas of Crime Detection and Prevention; Youth and Children; Education; Crime; Legal; Law; Human Services; Recreation and Sports; Social Services and Technology for the specific purpose of acquiring funding for units within the Juvenile Section of the Violent Crimes Division. Work shall be conducted under the direction of the Foothills Area Commander and will be directly supervised by said Commander. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as coordinate the development, writing and submission of grant proposals to third-party entities. 2. Be proficient in research, interpreting and analyzing diverse data. 3. Generates revenues for client programs and services through timely submission of well-researched, well-written, and well-documented grant/fund-raising proposals. 4. Will only write grants specifically for the APD Foothills Area Command and its respective communities. 5. Generate proposals and supporting documents in response to grant solicitations. 6. Maintains and implements funding calendar activities. 7. Serves as Liaison to all funding agencies and organizations, respectively. 8. Coordinate investigative tasks and sources of information pertaining to all gran5ts written. 9. Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals. 10. Assist in the development of other grant writing initiatives as designated by the Foothills Area Commander. GENERAL REQUISITES • Positions shall be typically limited term and offered during the spring, fall, and summer academic semesters established by the University of New Mexico. Positions are in effect for a maximum of sixteen weeks (unless a term is specifically mutually agreed upon between the Foothills Area Commander and the respective Grant Writing Intern and/or UNM Grant Writing Program official). • Duties require a minimum of twelve hours per week • May be required to write a term paper – per UNM Grant Writing Program official (optional) MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. 2. Must not possess a felony criminal record. 3. Must be in good academic standing with the sponsoring university. 4. Must have been recommended by the sponsoring university. 5. Must possess excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills. 6. Must be of sound moral, ethical, and professional character and posses an ability to maintain a degree of conduct in accordance with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) policy and procedures. 7. Must possess the ability to gain a comprehensive understanding of the policies and procedures of the Albuquerque Police Department as it pertains to unit functionality for fund raising. 8. Must possess an ability to positively interact and communicate effectively with APD personnel, Funding Organizations/Representatives, as well as with various other government agencies. 9. Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement and statement outlining the use of information associated with the Albuquerque Police Department and its respective investigative units. 10. Must successfully complete an Intern Orientation Session. 11. Must be willing to participate in at least one APD Field Services Bureau ride along. Contact: Commander Kevin Rowe, [email protected]
