The day unfolded with the neighbors becoming aware of an awful smell - a smell drifting through their windows into their homes. They knew about the woman who lived next door, who kept bringing dogs and cats home. They realized she was a hoarder. Everyone who saw the inside of the makeshift shack where she kept the animals imprisoned knew that the hoarder could not take care of anything. Neighbors hadnt seen the hoarder in more than 2 months. Some of them decided to go in and find out what was going on. Trapped in the shack, the puppies and kittens and their nursing mothers were the most vulnerable, they succumbing to starvation first. The animals that were barely still alive had to eat the dead bodies to survive. The neighbors found heads, organs and skeletons of more than 40 critters. A couple of the dogs had chains wrapped around their necks, so short, they had little space to move. They were forced to sit and sleep in their own faeces. Some stood in water up to their ankles. Everywhere, there were piles of faeces that had turned white from decay. The loose dogs wreaked havoc, desperately trying to find anything to eat. The morning of the raid, Animal Control workers, and both the police and the Royal Thai Navy arrived on the scene. The door toppled in and the search for animals began. During that mission, 16 more cats, 11 more dogs and a duck were rescued. With the 7 cats and 1 dog rescued earlier, the total includes 23 cats, 12 dogs and the previously mentioned duck. What will happen to them now? Currently they are being cared for by SOS Thailand but the daily cost of keeping them here has to be found. Your donations will help these animals. The vet costs for all being Neutered/vaccinated/wormed/de-ticked have mounted up. There are also boarding fees for the dogs until they can all be adopted. At present the costs are $700 per month to look after all the remaining dogs. K9Aid would like to help by providing a month’s worth of support. If we raise this money, then we will try to raise funds for an additional month. They have suffered enough, can you spare a little to help support these neglected animals while homes are being found?
