THE ART SAMPLER TEA EDITIONS ARE NOW ON SALE AT PROPER TEA [July 10th, 2014] The Proper Tea Company and Manchester based artist/curator Mike Chavez-Dawson have collaborated with three internationally acclaimed artists to create the Art Sampler Tea series. The project began in 2012 when the team launched a bespoke small run of “Anti-Psychotic” tea for David Shrigley, to coincide with his major solo show ‘HOW ARE YOU FEELING?’ at the Cornerhouse (2012-2013): “That was collectively our first foray into fusing art and tea and perhaps the inspiration for this new range,” says Chavez-Dawson. “It proved a huge success for art and tea connoisseurs and raised money for a mental health charity so it was obviously a powerful way of doing things.” Inspired by the success of the original David Shrigley tea, the team have blended a loose leaf version. A lively, floral concoction with a tangy finish. The power-blend of ingredients has been selected for their uplifting properties: Damiana was long-used by the Mayans as an energy tonic, Aztec herbalists used vanilla bean to relieve anxiety, Hibiscus is used in Egypt to support cardiac health, while Bergamot oil is used by aromatherapists to lighten depression. Also invited to curate their own blend, under the “Anti “ theme, were Bob and Roberta Smith and Billy Childish. Bob and Roberta Smith chose to create a fresh black tea blend for his “Anti-Cuts to the Arts” tea. A revitalising blend of Sri Lankan Ceylon black tea with whole-leaf peppermint, spearmint and cracked green fennel seeds. Billy Childish’s “Anti-Delusional” tea is a fragrant green tea blend. Made up of Green sencha tea, delicately scented with Bergamot and lemon with a sprinkling of royal blue cornflower petals making blend look as good as it tastes. All the teas are encased in first batch numbered edition Jackson of Piccadilly inspired tea tin caddies, with bespoke artwork from the collaborating artists. The tea blends were crafted with the expert help of the Proper Tea Company’s tea expert Kalpa Gosrani, a seasoned tea specialist who has travelled the world to expand her knowledge of the drink. She said: “It has been a great pleasure developing these blends whilst also then seeing the artists visual interpretation of them.” Tins are available to buy from Proper Tea at Manchester Cathedral and Teacup Kitchen for £15 per tin. properteadeveloper/post/announcing-the-launch-of-the-art-sampler-tea-series/
