THE BIG QUESION NOW TO WHAT EXTENT IS PSYCHOLOGY A SCIENCE: HMMM: 1. it uses scientific method but doesnt mean it turns it in to a science (miller) may take on tools of sciencies such a quatified meaauremens and staisticla analyis but stil doesnt make it a science.maybe a pseudoscience but dangerous one coz then psychologist can claim theor discoveries to be facts, 2. objectivity :some psy claim that human behaviour can be measured as objectivily as physical objects but this is unlikely coz the object of the study being a living thing reacts to the to the researcher this leads to experimenter bias and demand charecerisitcs which affects valdiity, howver it can be argued the same problem exists in hard science for example physics u cant measue a subaomic particle with out altering it behaviour in sum way. THE SECOND BIG QUESTION:ARE THE GOALS OF SCIENCE APPROPRIATE FOR PSYC scence takes nomothetic approach and psy idographic.e.g a person with schizo shud not be considered on physical chemical system goe wrong each person shud be treated as an individual:idiographic but science make generalisaion and finds similarities: nomothetic scientific methods ghave not always worked for some mental disorder psychological treatment has had betterr success. therefore golas of scicne in psy is not always approproate. qualitative resrach; psy sometimes advocate more qualitative research howver thse methods are still scientific as they aim to be valid. for eaxample data collected fom intervies and then triangulated to very them i dont think ill bother wih peer review maybe 5 mins reading coz it came up jan 2013 but who knows they might decided to be creaive and throw it in
