THE BLESSING OF GIVING ACTS 20:35 (NLT) It is ironic that as this first quarter of our daily devotions draws to an end we pause to look at todays devotion entitled, The Blessing of Giving. We have nearly concluded the first three months of 2014. Many of us made resolutions on January first that we would give more, serve more, and do more. Now we are able to take inventory to determine whether our commitment has kept pace with our resolution. It is a blessing to give; one must have a desire to give. It cannot be forced or coerced nor can anyone trick you with some gimmick to give, but rather you have experienced the blessings of giving from the heart. I have said on many occasions it is not how much you give but how you give that counts. My brothers and sisters, you cannot beat Gods giving no matter how hard you try. There are so many scriptural references about this matter of giving. Over and over again we read in the Holy Writ about the value of giving. It is a blessing to give. I repeat, it is a blessing to give. Turn your attention to Acts 20:35 where we find these words: And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: It is more blessed to give than to receive. Here Paul the humble servant of the Lord makes it clear that he has given Gods people instructions on how to give. He wants them to remember the words spoken by Jesus when He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Paul spent his days and nights giving and giving, and he was grateful to be able to do so. Even when his gifts were not well received he kept on giving. He cared nothing about his own welfare, but rather his concern was for the welfare of his people. He demonstrated by his life what it meant to be a faithful servant. He is not only grateful for what the Lord had done in his own personal life, but also how the Lord blessed others as they gave. Notice that after Paul had given these instructions he knelled down and prayed with them. He loved them so his appeal for them to give was not a condemnation, but rather a heart full of love. Prayerfully today, you will see the need to give generously to His church and His people because He has bountifully blessed you. Always remember, all that we have has come from Him.
