THE CIVILIZATION CYCLE OF DECLINE This is the pattern of the (human) kingdom of this world. This is how the nations were governed. They choose mans interests instead of God. Thus the kingdoms of the world have come under the sway of the devil. Matthew 16:23 But He turned and said to Peter, Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God interests but mans 1 Samuel 8:5 and they said to him, Behold you have grown old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king for us to judge us like all the nations 1 Samuel 8:7 The Lord said to Samuel, Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you for they have not rejected you but they have rejected Me from being king over them 1 Samuel 8:9 Now then, listen to their voice however you shall solemnly warn them and tell them of the procedure of the king who will reign over them The people of God rejected Theocracy and chose democracy. The voice of the people overwhelmingly rejected the voice of God and voice of the prophet. God told Samuel what it meant and how it was rejected of God as their King. THEOCRACY: The rule of God through His Word/voice and through His appointed and anointed leadership structure and chain of command. DEMOCRACY: The rule of people - a government of the people, by the people and for the people. A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority of voters will always vote for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that the democracy will collapse over loose fiscal policy always followed by a dictatorship Great nations rise and fall. Most kingdoms of the world collapse within the first generation. The average age of world greatest civilizations has been about 200 years. People move from progression to regression within a short period of time. The release of initiatives and enterprise made possibly by diligence and hard work disintegrates ultimately from the negative forces of selfishness and greed from within. After freedom comes opportunities that brings abundance and days of plenty. The competent become selfish, luxury loving and complacent. The incompetent and unfortunate grow envious and covetous. All three groups will ultimately turn aside from the hard road of freedom to worship the Golden Calf of economic security. The historic cycle repeats itself.
