THE COINCIDENTAL ABACHAnisation OF JONATHANians:BY ATABO M ABUBAKAR: The subject matter of this article may sound alien to the dictionary and regular encyclopedia,thus,an operational definition of the two concepts (ie ABACHAnisation and JONATHANians) will be proffered with a view to contextualizing the crop of the article in proper perspective . ABACHANisation describes the historical, social, economic and political occurrences that characterized Gen.Sani Abachas administration of 1993-1998 (emphasis mine).Same applicable to the spirit and letters of the concept JONATHANisation that characterized the administration of President Jonathan from 2010 to date. (also emphasis is mine) ABACHAnisation of JONATHANians therefore connote the replication of the historical, social, economic and political occurrences of Gen.Abachas regime in President Jonathans administration. (emphasis remains mine).Puzzling as it sounds,a comparative historical analysis depicts a lot of areas of convergence between the two regimes.I wish to therefore present ten but one of those areas of convergence (in no particular order)as follows: 1. Gen.Abachas regime convoked a National (Constitutional) Conference under the leadership of Justice Karibe Whyte to fashion Nigerias future,President Jonathan also convoked a National Conference for the same purpose early this year; 2. Gen.Abachas regime convicted and condemned to death 12 Military Officers for attempted Coup(Mutiny) including his second in command Gen.Oladipi Diya,President Jonathan also convicted and condemned to death12 Military Officers for mutiny in Maiduguri Baraks recently ; 3.There was a rally tagged 2 Million Man Match led by Daniel Kanu in Abuja in 1998 calling on Abacha to contest the Presidential election.TAN rally is still going on calling President Jonathan to contest the 2015 Presidential elections. 4.Five Political Parties (UNCP,DPN,CNC,MDJ and ADC) in 1998 adopted Gen. Abacha as their sole candidate for the 1998 Presidential election, now the PDP,APGA and LP (still counting) have adopted President Jonathan as their sole candidate for the 2015 Presidential election. 5.Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi instituted a legal action in Lagos State High Court and sought to disqualify Gen.Sani Abacha from becoming President in 1998 on the grounds of ineligibilty,some PDP members have now instituted a legal action in Lagos High Court seeking President Jonathans disqualification on the ground of ineligibilty. 6.Gen.Abachas perceived Presidential ambition in the 1998 Presidential election over heated the polity at that time,President Jonathans Presidential ambition in 2015 Presidential election is gradually over heating Nigerias polity. 7. Gen.Abacha was unstoppable in the run up of the 1998 Presidential elections as the power of incumbency, resources and support were enormously at his disposal,President Jonathan seems unstoppable also as all the above factors are at his disposal. 8.Gen.Abacha ruled Nigeria for five years(1993-1998),by May 2015,President Jonathan will also be five years as President of Nigeria(2010 -2015). 9.Gen.Abacha was described as a dictator and corrupt, President Jonathan is described as clueless and the 6th richest President in Africa. 10. When the political barometer attained the peak of its apogee and enveloped with intrigues, tension, uncertainty and lost of hope,God in his own wisdom intervened at the most critical time of our national life by single handedly, silently and smoothly removing the major obstacle of that time.Gen. Abacha died in his sleep,on his bed,in Aso Rock Villa,Abuja.................... Wait,hope you are not filling the above blank space!cos,if you try it,you are on your own.....I rest my case.
