THE CRY OF AN OGOJA MAN: For how long are we going to face - TopicsExpress

THE CRY OF AN OGOJA MAN: For how long are we going to face humiliation? What is wrong with the ogoja people? Why do we sell our rights? Are we slaves in our own Land? Who are the real Ogoja indigenes? For quite some time now, I have tried to understand why an Ogoja man is always boycotted in any political post. I weep when I see how this people cheat my beloved Ogoja brothers and sisters. The fact that we are headquarters of the northern senatorial district of the state is just a fact that is yet to be justified. Most of them are foreigners we sheltered but are not real citizens of Ogoja Local Government, they reside at Ogoja, they campaign at Ogoja because they believe we are fools that can easily be bought, they do their businesses at Ogoja, but which Local Government of Origin certificate do they possess? These is not all about Chief Peter Ojie but it’s about the Ogoja people of which I am a proud citizen. We campaign for them because we are not united. Some might say an Ogoja man was the former House of Reps member Representing the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, but I believe as top stakeholder of the district we should have more than that. We are all canvassing for a state now, titled: “Ogoja” State, it is Ogoja State and not Yala, Bekwarra, Obudu or Obanliku State. Past and present senator; Yala and Obudu (3 times), Past and present ministers; Yala and Calabar. We produce most of the agricultural products in the district, we shelter most of them and we still campaign for them!!! Are we fools? The Bekwarra people were considered as the minority in the district/zone but let’s really examine that fact, bekwarra has produced a one- time Attorney General/Minister of Justice of the Federation and also Minister of Solid Minerals, Obudu has produced a one time Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Yala has produced a Minister of Information and communications and also a minister of environment, these are all national/international recognized positions, where is Ogoja. We really have to wake up our ideas because we can’t be slaves in our own land. I remember those days where these people come down to Ogoja to work as slaves in our forefather’s farms, “a slave cannot be wiser that his/her master” We must change this come 2015!!! Join me lets acclaim our positions Edward Egbelo Abuja
