THE Confederation of African Football has cleared Nkana over the use of defender Christopher Munthali in the CAF Champions League after Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland filed a complaint alleging that the player was irregularly registered. The Mbabane-based club filed the complaint with CAF after they lost 5-2 at Nkana Stadium last month where they stated that the player was fraudulently registered outside the stipulated period. But in a response copied to Swallows and carried in the Swazi Times newspaper, CAF stated that the player was registered within the stipulated period. We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 24th February 2014 concerning your complaint regarding the participation of player Christopher Munthali of Nkana club (Zambia). However, kindly note that Munthali was registered during the stipulated period of registration in the regulations and all his registration procedures and documents were respected and no infraction at all was made, CAF stated. Swazi Football Association chief executive officer Fredrick Mngomezulu also confirmed having received the response which he said had been forwarded to Swallows. CAF has communicated but all we did was forward the response to Swallows. They are the only ones who are in a position to disclose what was said, he is quoted as having said. Munthali has been a key figure in Nkanas campaign and scored the crucial winning goal in the teams 2-1 victory over KCCA in Kampala last week that qualified the team to the second round of the competition.
