THE DANGER OF COMPARISON Maybe you are better at this than I - TopicsExpress

THE DANGER OF COMPARISON Maybe you are better at this than I am, but I sometimes slip into the pattern of COMPARING myself to others. I look at their accomplishments, popularity, material things, spiritual life, even Facebook timeline and begin to be envious of what they have. And not just what they have but sometimes WHO they are. 2 things that Ive learned over the years that have brought me some freedom from this issue: 1. The other persons life is generally not as perfect as I make it out to be. We all have issues and their highlight reel and my behind the scenes footage shouldnt be held up side by side. 2. I am my BEST SELF when I find my worth not so much in WHAT I DO, but WHO I AM in Jesus. When what I DO flows from who I AM, my life has order, meaning and purpose. When what I DO dictates who I AM, things get messy. I have a bad day, Im a bad person. I fail at something and Im a failure. I win at something, Im a winner. This is DANGEROUS thinking. Instead, consider this: Make a careful exploration of WHO YOU ARE and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. DONT COMPARE yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the CREATIVE BEST you can with your own life. (Galatians 6:4, 5 MSG) When I am at my CREATIVE BEST, living out the life that IM called to, not someone elses, I find peace, joy and fulfillment. This is Gods intention for each of us.
