THE DAY HE PASSED AWAY THEY FELLED A TREE An evenn prior hed passed, Within a day a tree was cut, In grief we wept as they felled a tree. Four hundred years for such as he, Seemed fair to mind unreasonably, Stood proudly and parted hard from life, Beyond its will, Like he. Departed in gaped processions, Section by section, Piece by piece, Like he. Without reserve it fell, Left a hardened disk impinged, A record upon our minds, As seen upon the ground it left, The wills pointed nib, Quill tapped finite drafted point, Touched with a seeming care, That impinges hard press of warrant, Quelled now the joyous prance above, Lost and bled to hapless hold of life, As once above it had also held below, As base and innate as sorely lifes hold be, Rejoiced clung with kick and swill, As cool breezes and salty licks, As lovers may have pressed kissing, Beyond a road led this way and that, Away to there beyond the green, Note of possums rapacious cheeky tap, Removed as drape of leaf is shaved, Coy humility of naked chill, Shunned bark flailed at brace of cross, Needle spires snapped cleared, Hammers plunged deep befit of any Irish, As roots have long prior any Edison, Snakes rid below now struck with tenders, Where can rejoice be bereft of leafy note? Veined of rasp and vigor, Blown heartily to recall with high step, Rejoice that stomp of a life lived. The day he passed away they felled a tree.
