THE DECISION TO CLOSE DOWN THE UNIVERSITY IS LONG OVERDUE. Its aburdantly clear that the Univerisity is not functioning optimally since virtually all operations has been brought to a grinding halt.The current stalemate between the Univerisity staff and the management is likely to go past this week as projected by different Univerisity Senates for example UoN,Jkuat and Maseno; which have already adviced their students to go for a short recess. I hold the view that MMUST should also follow suite until an amicable solution is reached between the Staff Unions and the management.What is the rationale of keeping students in session when they cant even access the basic services like subsidized food at the MESS,the conducive reading envrionment at ULA,when students are residing in a Hall of residence which has not been cleaned for two days. In a nutshell,the gravity of this matter is even beyond the powers of the University management.This a matter that is squarely touching on the bloated and unbearable government wage bill which will require the University staff to make sacrifices and compromises even it means putting aside the CBA signed in May 2013.The Jubilee goverment is currently broke and they cant afford to sustain a payrise for the staff in the future fiscal years.
