Hahaha!” she laughs, enjoying her new found forever home. “Nobody ever played with me like that!” she giggles as he nuzzles with her large, white beak. “So, I bet you and Mommy paid a lot of money to adopt my and Fredders!” she giggles as Honey glances over. “If by money, you mean by replacing the damage that you did to the door when you first arrived?” I scorn she looks over again. “Did you notice the extra gift I gave you?” she asks as he plays with the happily homed parrot. “Hmm?” he asks, glancing up as she turns back towards the screen. “I don’t think gifts are important to him, Mommy.” I sigh as she returns her focus to the computer. “What is, Pearlybird?” she frowns as she clicks on the keyboard. “He seems to have a true passion for helping others.” I smile as she focuses on the numbers. “Are the banks closed today?” she asks, peering at the numbers on the screen. “Oh, there it is. Seven seventy-four. Hmm…” she pauses as she glances over her shoulder. “Weird number.” she hesitates, “Overtime?” she asks as Ethel steals his affection. “You’re going to sell us, aren’t you?!” I frown as I look over at the Brazilian Beast with that scary, pink beak. “No, Pearl!” Honey reassures as I toss the numbers in my head. “But I’ve heard you say before that Daddy doesn’t make enough money to support us, so what’s your plan B?” I ask as she looks down at the corner of the littered room. “Right now, I’m just praying that perhaps I’ll have enough fans around the world praying for us that we’ll survive, just like I wrote about in your series, Pearlybird.” she sighs as I leap over to the window to watch our neighbors puff on their cancer sticks. “I’m not buying it!” I frown, watching as they scornfully turn their backs away with distain. “David Weinberg contacted the Costa Mesa City Hall today.” Kevin mutters as Shawna deeply inhales the smoke. “So, what did they say?” she asks as she casts an evil eye my way. “Well, David Goates is the head officer of the animal control division and he’s going to begin issuing citations to Pink Pearl in order to support the city with noise violation citations and if she doesn’t pay, well then…” he pauses, taking one last drag as he guzzles his can of fermented beverage. “Jail?” she coyly wishes as they slither into their home. “Dream come true.” he sniffles as he follows her inside.
