THE EIGHT OPPOSING DEVILS And they came and ran Through all the land With their cold sting With which they make Our lives so miserable That we regret we were born Our families have failed us badly Raising us without a purpose Teaching us without a vision Beating us without a reason And now when we should be celebrated We end up being rejected Politics is a mighty prince That we run to for help But he is the beast That births many woes That mock us daily In our land of plenty Religion and her many clergies Should have brought us good And make us good as we behold God But alas my brethren! The devil has transformed himself An agent of light that brings darkness The ruling class should have known Of course they do and thats why we trusted them But they have robbed and raped us Forced their agenda on us Turned us against ourselves And kill us when we turn on them Terrorism like cowards came Bearing different names they chose Wearng different faces as foes Making our hearts melt Priding hemselves heroes of doom As they send innocent many into gloom The dissatisfied ones came also The lawbreakers and criminals Knowing what they want Knowing the sacrifices to be made Yet taking the easy way out As they cause many to scream to their deaths We thought the business world would give us The much-needed change we need But the greedy, angry bourgeois Daily plot deceit and alienation Against the poor waged-worker That has only his labour to give Education, o how you have failed! As you daily surrender To the greedy ones who kill you here And send their children to learn out there Leaving you in the mecy Of those who dont have us at heart Nigeria, behold thy eight devils Resist them now and stand again Cast them out now and win again Oh! My fine country at fifty-three What would thou have to tell us Alas! The bedeviled young nation. Lets together SAVE our NATION 4rm these DEVILS.
