THE EPITOME OF SACRIFICE There is a female species of the spider known as the Australian crab spider. Its the epitome of sacrifice probably more than any other creature I have ever read about. In times of extreme scarcity, rather than allow her young die in starvation she offers her body to them as food. They eat her alive. Normally this keeps them with sufficient supply of provision through the famine. When God created this spider, He must have had his only son Jesus very much in mind. For years, He watched His best friend – man – degenerate from one degree of decay to another. 2000 years ago, God looked again at His friend and his remains. Man was a ghastly sight to behold. Robbed of all glory, all honor, all dignity, all esteem, living in squalor, killing and being killed, stealing and being defrauded, his mind was full of depravity and the thoughts of his heart was filthy and dark. God took a look at the Australian crab spider and asked Jesus if He could do same to which He gave an affirmative nod. The rest of the story you know. He was born with only one vision: To die. He came to inherit a curse. He was our last hope. Man was on an express road to eternal destruction until the man of Galilee suddenly showed up. “Take, eat; this is my body. Drink, for this is my blood which is poured out for many for the remission of sins.” These were the very words of Jesus and I enjoin you to reflect on them as we celebrate His birth today. Have you been to Him for that life-giving bread? Have you been to Him for a cleansing wash in the blood?? You’ve got an opportunity today. Merry Christmas y’all.
