THE FARUQ: On the 26th of Dhil-Hajj, we remember the Martydom of one of the greatest Servants of Allah and Lovers of Rasul-Allah (SAW) who ever lived; SAYYIDUNA UMAR IBN AL-KHATTAB (RA). Throughout the lifetime of the Rasul (SAW), he remained a constant pillar of support and strength for him and Islam. The Rasul (SAW) rewarded him by marrying his daughter Sayyida Hafsah. He then supported and counselled Abu-Bakr (RA) in the most difficult of times for Islam. Thereafter, as Khalifah, he conquered half the world for Islam, yet wore rags, ate bread and slept on the floor. He got delayed for Jumah Prayer once as he did not have an extra Robe to wear. Though a man of Jalal, the World did not see a ruler more just than Umar al-Faruq. Allowed a woman to publicly correct him in in the Mosque. Allowed a bedouin to complain and speak bluntly to him; saying: There is no good in them if they dont say it, and no good in us if we dont hear it. His beard and (very long) moustaches would often be wet from his crying. He travelled to Jerusalem to honor the request of its Archbishop, riding one day and walking one day, alternating his horse with his servant! Though Ruler, when there was a drought, he asked the Prophet (SAW)s uncle Sayyidina Abbas (RA) to pray for everyone, and stood humbly behind him. He was stabbed by a Persian slave, upset with his conquest of Persia, while leading the Fajr prayer in the Mihrab of the Prophet (SAW). Indeed, he had prayed for this: Martyerdom in the City of the Prophet! And he got it. He requested that he be buried next to his beloved Rasul Muhammad (SAW) and friend Abu-Bakr (RA), with the permission of Sayyida Aisha (RA). And there he was buried, to be in that Sacred Company forever. After his washing, Imam Ali (RA) came and uncovered his face and cried heavily. When asked why? Ali (RA) replied: How can I not cry over Umar? The death of Umar made a hole in Islam that will not be filled till the Day of Judgement.. السلام عليك يا سيدنا عمر بن الخطاب يا خليفة رسول الله و فاروق هذه الأمة! Sheigh Fakhrudien Owaisi.
