THE FEDS THRU REGULATIONS ARE TRYING TO CONTROL OUR PUBLIC LANDS ... My Senator - Dean Heller - Nevada - sent me a lengthy letter explaining what the Feds are doing ... they are threatening to put the Sage Grouse on the endangered species list ... if they do that ... 1.8 million acres (in a bi-State area) of critical habitat with a special rule intended to benefit the bird will be affected ... In Nevada over 80% of Sage-Grouse habitat is on Federal lands ... Should the Sage Grouse get listed, according to Heller our rural way of life and our local economies will be subject to an administrative swipe of a pen ... Grazing, hunting, recreation, mining, and energy production on nearly 17 million acres of public lands in our State of NV could come to a screeching halt, which is why I am working with the Governor, the Delegation, and the Nevadans to prevent a listing for the bird ... To this end, I recently released a discussion draft of a proposal that aims to spur economic development throughout the state while supporting the Nevada Sagebrush Councils sage-grouse recovery strategy. ... I am deeply interested in how the BLM conducts wild horse gathers, how the populations are managed, and whether the range conditions can support the horse populations. As a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, which has some oversight authority over the BLM, rest assured I will continue to advocate for reasonable management of Nevadas wild horse populations. Dean Heller - US Senator (202) 224-6244
