THE FEELING OF HOPELESSNESS Many believers are faced with serious situations. This may be because of health problems, or financial situations that may leave the person with a feeling of hopelessness. Satan is wanting to destroy our trust in God and make us become very discouraged, so that we lose all hope. Hopelessness is a satanic spirit that will try to oppress us to keep us from being effective for the Lord. Job gives us this picture in Job 7:1-6. Job 7:4 When I lie down, I say, “When shall I arise, and the night be ended?” For I have had my fill of tossing till dawn. 5. My flesh is caked with worms and dust, my skin is cracked and breaks out afresh. 6. My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope. Deuteronomy 28:67 In the morning you shall say, “Oh, that it were evening!” And at evening you shall say, “Oh, that it were morning!” because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes see. Hopelessness produces oppression and heaviness and may end up in depression. It will affect people’s attitude, and cause things to be said that will stop faith from working. People do not realize that God is ready to help each one of us in any time of need. Many people allow the enemy to constantly tempt them to stop depending on the promises of the Bible, or stop serving the Lord. Resist these enemy forces in the wonderful name of Jesus, and they will have to flee! Psalm 37:39 But the salvation of the righteousness is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble. 40. And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him. THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON The name of Jesus is the most powerful weapon Christianity has. One of the names of Jesus is the Word of God. This means that all of the promises of the Bible are tied to, and backed by the name of Jesus. Revelation 19:13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2. He was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 14. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. The early Church depended totally on the power of the name of Jesus. Everything that the Church had and stood for was possible because of the name of Jesus. The Church of today must wake up to the fact that we are fighting spiritual battles, and must be completely dependent on the name of Jesus. SALVATION Salvation is possible because of the name of Jesus. The people who are depending on their good works will find that they have absolutely nothing to save them. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Acts 16:30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31. and they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9. not of works, lest anyone should boast. DIVINE HEALING Divine healing is possible through the power of the name of Jesus. Isaiah looked forward to this event, and Peter looked back to it. Isaiah 53:4 Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. 1 Peter 2:24 Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed. YOUR PEACE The payment for your peace was taken care of by Jesus at the cross. Many Christians fail to take advantage of the peace that is available, and are frequently filled with turmoil. They feel oppressed, and filled with fear. They fail to realize that the name of Jesus will release them from this bondage, if they will only depend upon His Word. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. The early Church depended totally on the name of Jesus, because it was Satan’s downfall. They knew that Satan had strongholds all around the world, which were controlling many governments, banks, businesses, and people. The early Christians came against them in the name of Jesus and started causing them to come down. Any time Satan starts to build a stronghold against your life today, you have the same authority to pull them down through the power of the wonderful name of Jesus. The name of Jesus is so powerful that nothing can stand against it. The satanic forces shudder and tremble at the name of Jesus. Satan found out what was stopping him from having victory, and causing him defeat. He next started a big campaign against the Church, to cause them to lose sight of the power of the name of Jesus. He wanted the Church to feel that the name of Jesus had no more power than any other name. In many areas of the world people give their children the name “Jesus.” This eventually caused the name “Jesus” to become very commonplace, and lose its significance. The next thing Satan did was degrade the name of Jesus into a slang word, or to some people, a curse word. These people fail to realize that every time they do this, they are breaking one of the ten commandments. Exodus 20:7 You shall not use or repeat the name of the Lord your God in vain, [that is, lightly or frivolously, in false affirmations or profanely]; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. (Amplified Bible) There are others who feel that using an abbreviation of one of the names of God is acceptable. “Gee”, when used as “Gee whiz”, is a replacement for the name Jesus. “By Jove” is an abbreviation of “by Jehovah.” Many other examples could be given. People fail to realize that all of us are going to give an account for every careless word we say. Matthew 12:36 But I say to you that for every idle (careless) word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
