THE FIREPLACE MANTLE, THE BOOKSHELF, A HALLWAY WALL AND THE END TABLE By: Towana Williams You may be asking; Towana what does that title mean? What it means beloved is this... The above referenced title, refers to the death of our love ones. The fireplace mantle, the bookshelf, a hallway wall and a end table, holds their pictures, lovingly placed in a frame or nestled in a photo album. Its a place of remembrance for those that we loved and lost. We walk past those photos and sometimes we speak or whisper a prayer. Sometimes we reflect on fond memories and funny things that they said or did. Sometimes we just sit and stare with tears falling from our eyes, and our hearts are heavy with longings for them. Other times we dust the pictures off and start talking to them, about whats going on right now, whats happened since they left and open ended questions about their last words or thoughts before they left. Some have gone to sleep, seemingly to soon, some came with a mission and left when it was completed. Some left at the hands of violence, which has left mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, children, siblings and grands, holding the departeds pictures in their hands; while rocking, sobbing and remembering their sweet smell. Yet still there are others who left, right on time and at a ripe old age. Im not writing this to make you sad. I am writing to tell you, that you will see them again when Glory comes. Your love one is not your last memory of them in a coffin. Nor their final outfit that you picked out, nor the songs that were sang at their funeral and not the final view of them being lowered into the earth, with tears and flowers hugging their shiny caskets. They are still beautiful and beloved by God. They are fast asleep until Jesus comes to raise the living and the dead! There is no more earthly pain for them nor sorrow. No worries about life, bills, wayward kids, disease, sinfulness, temptation and broken hearts. They are at peace, so let them rest. Keep praising God despite your heartache and longings. Everyone that He has laid down, was done for a reason in Heaven. Meaning, it was Gods will and we cant question it. Just trust that He understands how we feel. Remember...He to lost a son to tragedy, ruthless violence, gut wrenching pain, gone to soon and tasted death for three days. BUT THE GRAVE COULDNT HOLD HIM! And on that third day, HE AROSE AND FOLDED UP HIS GRAVE CLOTHES AND WALKED ON OUT OF THAT TOMB! Our loved ones are going to do the same thing on JUDGEMENT DAY! PRAISE GOD WHILE YOU STILL HAVE BREATH!!!! Let go of old grudges and painful memories of those who have gone to sleep. Its not valid anymore and their debt was paid by Christ.
