THE GOOD...THE BAD...THE FUNNY...AND THE JUST PLAIN, DUMB ASS - TopicsExpress

THE GOOD...THE BAD...THE FUNNY...AND THE JUST PLAIN, DUMB ASS STUPID: First, the stupid) What in the hell were those 3 teenage girls thinking when jetting overseas to join up as recruits with ISIS?? Im figuring they saw the recruitment vid...but havent they also seen the respect shown women by that bloodthirsty lot?? Second--the funny) Prezs conversation and resulting actions with the constituency yesterday when casting his absentee ballot. Got to see a brother (in jest) warn Obama to stay clear of his girlfriend and after finishing voting, the Prezs thoughts and resulting smooch on the cheek of the surprised & laughing gal. Myself, I laughed at the look Obama gave the boyfriend as he was heading out...and all I heard in my head was tell me again...what I cant do? Wonder how many times that look came over his face when dealing with Congress? Third--the bad) Retiring GOP Senator Bob Coburn (OK) has released a compilation of 100 wasted govt spending on items ranging from Swedish massages for rabbits to people getting paid to watch grass grow and 98 more items cataloged in his Wastebook. HIs conclusion: pork barrel spending by the govt isnt going away anytime soon. And hes apparently correct in that thinking. William Proxmire, a distinguished member of Congress for years. This Democratic Senator from Wisconsin (1957-88) started handing out monthly Golden Fleece awards in 1975 (thru 88) for govt misspendings and foolish money-eating agendas. Looks like Coburns got the history understood. And lastly--the good) Ben Bradlee, long the editor-in-chief of the Washington Post, died yesterday. He was, in short, my iconic hero beginning in the 70s. As I was just beginning my tour as a member of the fourth estate, Bradlee led the way in newspaper history with his dedication to his reporters covering, reporting and living through such historic episodes in Americana as Watergate and the Pentagon Papers. Hes been quoted as saying he never trusted anyone (even Woodward & Bernstein) in Washington so every statement made was to be checked, double & triple checked...and then one more time before he would print it. ...there are 100 ways to lie... was a phrase I remembered him saying. And even though my journalistic road was way below his statured greatness, I like to think his dedication to authenticity was a trait I brought with me in my time as a reporter/publisher in the business of media. His integrity never waived when times would seem it might be the easier route. To him, I thank in my own way today, his influence on my life. I wouldve given anything to have met and interviewed him before his passing. Rest in peace now, Ben...youll always be front page with me...and never in the obits.
