THE HORRIBLE THING Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. [Matthew 24:15-22] This prophetic teaching from Rebbe Yeshua is cloaked with mystery. What is the Abomination of Desolation and what is the holy place? Judea is completely mountainous, so which mountains should the people be fleeing to? The immediate danger posed by the situation is so imminent that our Teacher calls for a complete evacuation of Judea without hesitating for any reason. His reference to a great tribulation that will threaten all life demands that we interpret this prophecy for the days in which we now live! The two Hebrew words translated as the Abomination of Desolation can also be rendered the detestable thing which causes desolation. Theres only one Horrible Thing that can cause the kind of desolation that threatens all life in these days and that is a nuclear weapon! We can assume that the holy place refers to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem since the Holy of Holies still exists there even without the Temple proper. If the current peace negotiations were to fail and if a nuclear weapon could be smuggled into Jerusalem by the Muslim authorities overseeing the Temple Mount, who knows what kind of demands the Palestinians would be able to force upon Israel! This is what I saw the first time I read this prophecy and I believe it is of the Spirit. Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem!
