**THE INDIAN EXPRESS NEWS** The government is considering regularisation of contractual staff members who have been working for more than 10 years. As government employees hired on contracts continued to protest outside the Secretariat, Education Minister Manish Sisodia said the government had been working on resolving the issue. He said various government departments had 35,000 vacancies and that the government was looking at ways to fill those. “There are 35,000 vacancies in various Delhi government departments, which need to be filled, while there are people working on contract in the same departments. We are looking at all these issues,” Sisodia said. “We have asked each department to compile a list of vacancies and how many people are working on contract. The years of experience, age, qualifications of the guest or contractual staff is also being compiled,” he said. With members of the Guest Teachers’ Association protesting outside the Secretariat since January 15, Sisodia said he had met them and discussed the matter. “They want to be regularised before anyone else. This can’t happen,” he said. According to officials, the government is considering regularisation of contractual staff members who have been working for more than 10 years. During the Janta Darbar on January 11, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said since the maximum turnout was by the contractual staff who were seeking permanent postings for years now, he would look into the matter immediately. “I assure you that we have taken note of your complaints. I am asking all departments for data on how many contractual staff they have and why they cannot be made permanent. They will submit a report in a week and I will try to take a decision in a month. You have waited for so many years, give me this much time,” he had said.
