THE INNER THRESHOLD. How does Radical Subjectivity relate to the MOA-doctrine of splices & thresholds? Perhaps we have heard St. Leibnitz say that Monads have no windows. We almost surely agree with him -- for how is there any interiority if it does not include something that cannot be validated by observations from outside? On the other hand we always find subjectivity in cahoots with worlds and others, changing in correlation to other variables. But is not some part of its still untouched? Still known only in the heart of the participatory experience itself? Of course. A yes-and-no, a both/and & an either/or stand between worlds and selves. I will argue that the potent difference, this qualitative inequality between the outer and inner world, is less than we think. We tend to join St. Leibnitz in an extraordinary evaluation and determination of interiors. Is it not the consciousness within that joins all things and ascends or descends into the status of God? No. Rather it is the phenomenological threshold between objectivity and subjectivity which accomplishes this ubiquitous miracle. We experience and ponder an untouchable core of subjectivity. It cannot be subject to any science! But then again the force of this untouchability may be an effect of the differential between inside & out. Let us not simply assume that the within of the Observer is joined in unity to the Observed. I will argue (or so it seems) that the real/unreal boundary between Observer and Observed is uniquely asymmetrical to both the inside and outside and mutual zones of Reality. We can find it as readily in the outside as on the inside -- and we can demand a science of interiors as readily as as exteriors without violating the unique transcendental potential within us. For that potential is not within us. We only think that because we find it in the midst of a radical shift from outside to inside. As we cross the threshold (which is everywhere) we enact this Mystery. We could enact just as well by moving from subjectivity to objectivity. It goes both ways. Enough. This is arcane stuff but surely I must not go too far into it...
