THE KING RETURNS By:- Gary Norris Gray-BASN Staff Reporter The King returned to the Throne in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday July 11, 2014. We are compelled to ask questions about this reunion. Professional players usually run away from Cleveland, Ohio, LeBron James went back. People do not retire in Cleveland, Ohio; LeBron James might just do that. Cleveland is in the middle of a great depression and LeBron James might be trying to pull the state of Ohio out of this monetary despair. There has not been a professional championship in any sport in Cleveland, Ohio since 1964, when the Cleveland Browns with the Hall of Fame running back Mr. Jim Brown won the NFL Championship. This is LeBron James new mission. But we must travel back to the beginning and the ESPN National Telecast of The Decision and its aftermath. That night Cavalier fans were in the streets burning the rust and gold number 23 jersey. The hate and vile words could be heard over the Cleveland sports radio networks streamed live all night long like the water flowing in the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. It never stopped. They called this young man everything but the Son of the Devil. Then came the thousand foot knife in the back of LeBron James by the so called Sports Leader. (ESPN) the Entertainment and Sports Network decided to make this into a soap opera and most of their reporters roasted Mr. James day and night. Now they were the entertainment network and not the sports news network at this time period. ESPN did not care about the residual effects on James, his family, his friends, true basketball fans or the Miami Heat. The talking heads wanted to get viewers and James was the new strong Black man that needed to be taken down, LeBron fit the mold and the verbal attacks began. Number 23 became enemy number one, Darth Vader in a new number 6 Miami Heat basketball uniform. Lets make this clear, LeBron James made a business decision like every American has to at one point in their life. He could see the future in Cleveland and it was not bright. He could not bring a championship in the mid-west town and he had a choice to stay home and play the rest of his life in Cleveland without ever winning a championship or moving on to another team and a chance at earning the title National Basketball Association Champion. Then came the infamous letter from the Cleveland Caviler owner Dan Gilbert and all hell broke loose. Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight; As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier. This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his decision unlike anything ever witnessed in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment. Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us. The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you. There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you. You simply dont deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal. You have given so much and deserve so much more. In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight: I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER KING WINS ONE You can take it to the bank. If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our motivation to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels. Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there. Sorry, but thats simply not how it works. This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown chosen one sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And who we would want them to grow-up to become. But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called curse on Cleveland, Ohio. The self-declared former King will be taking the curse with him down south. And until he does right by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma. Just watch. Sleep well, Cleveland. Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day.... I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only: DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue.... Dan Gilbert Majority Owner Cleveland Cavaliers Four years after the earthquake in Cleveland the dust cleared and the Miami Heat went to the NBA Finals four times winning two of them, a feat only two other teams have done in over 80 years. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, were rebels in 2010. These three intelligent and talented Black Men upset the basketball apple cart and EVERYBODY GOT MAD because the Miami Heat were winning Championships. They were mad because the players had taken control of who went where and when. The NBA intelligencia could not let this go on even though the Boston Celtics front office did the same thing years earlier. They won the NBA championship by building a super team in the northeast with the owners of the Seattle SuperSonics and Minnesota Timberwolves trading center, Kevin Garnett, and guard, Ray Allen to Boston joining Celtic forward Paul Pierce at TD Gardens-Boston. Bosh, Wade, and James created their own super team and that could not EVER happen again. The League made it clear when the commissioner rejected the Chris Paul trade with the New Orleans Hornets (Pelicans) to the Los Angeles Lakers. Paul wanted to play with Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol at Staples Center in Hollywood. It Did Not Happen. That was a warning to all of the players in the league; DO NOT DO THIS AGAIN!!! Mr. Gilbert might have apologized to Mr. James in private he should apologize publicly to the Cleveland fan base and LeBron James for one of the nastiest public letters of our times. Mr. Gilbert should return funds to the Cavalier season ticket holders and the fans that helped pay for his fine four years ago. Mr. Gilbert should be ashamed of himself for forcing Cleveland fans to watch a minor league basketball team and pay to do so the last four years. The Cleveland Fan base should also apologize to LeBron James for their crude and lewd behavior in the streets four years ago after The Decision. It will never happen; Mr. Gilbert and the Cavalier fan base will never do this. All is forgotten, because The Chosen One has returned home. All is forgotten the N-words, the traitor-accusations, the prince-lack of respect, because these fans and owner Dan Gilbert think they are going to get a championship now. The King has come home to claim his throne. Other forces might also be at work here. 1) The League wanted to help the Central Division which lost billions the last four years. The League wanted to help the division to become competitive again. The Milwaukee Bucks, The Minnesota Timberwolves, The Chicago Bulls, The Detroit Pistons, The Indiana Pacers, and The Cleveland Cavaliers lost 15-20 % in attendance the last four years. For those who dont think thats not important you have not been paying attention, FOLLOW THE MONEY as my friend Cowboy Reggie Howell from 1450 WCLM-Richmond, VA. states. James will now play in those cities next year, HELLO. That means an increase in revenues for the Bulls, Pacers, Pistons, Bucks, Timberwolves, and Cavs. The Cleveland Cavs sold out their 2014-15 season tickets in less than seven hours after James stated he would play in his beloved Cleveland, Ohio. Thats the power of THE KING. Four years ago fans could walk up to the ticket window the day of the game and purchase tickets in all five Central Division cities. 2) LeBron James wants to be like MIKE JORDAN and he could not do that until he came back to Cleveland. 3) LeBron James wants to be liked by Blacks, white, Latino, and Asian, basketball fans and LeBron has to learn that people are not going to love you no-matter what you say or do. 4) LeBron James wants to return to the good graces of the NBA and its fan base so the player generated super team had to be retired. 5) Did LeBron James want to go home?...Maybe. The NBA needs LeBron in Cleveland and not in Miami hence his two year contract with an option to leave after one year. Nice effort LeBron...meant to pull at the NBA fan base heartstrings. Do we believe LeBrons take in totality? Maybe. Do we think the business of the NBA has more impact than the individual pursuits of games top marketing stock? Affirmative. So now America LOVES LeBron James, REALLY? YOU SERVE YOUR MASTERS WELL P.S. Im not a LeBron James fan but when the American sports media and sports fans attack a brother for no reason. We (Black journalist) must defend this brother because nobody else will. Gary Norris Gray - Writer, Author, Historian. Gibbs Magazine-Oakland, California and New England Informer- Boston Mass.
