Nyekan: Re: A DEMAND FOR RETRAXIT OF DEFAMATORY AND SLANDEROUS STATEMENTS MADE BY YOU (HON. GABRIEL NYEKAN) AGAINST OUR CLIENT, MR. MAMADEE S. DIAKITE, DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL, RCI AND LEAD PRESENTER OF THE TRUTH BREAKFAST SHOW (TBS) We are to advice that we are lawyers for Mr. Mamadee S. Diakite, Deputy Director General, RCI and Lead Presenter of the Truth Breakfast Show (TBS), who has informed us that on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at a called Press Conference at the Capital Building, you made some slanderous statements/comments about his person and hard-earned reputation to the effect as follows: 1. That he is a “jihadist and ex-LURD fighter” 2. That there are court records to establish that he stole 40ft container from the Freeport of Monrovia where he served as Assistant Operations Manager for Container and that he was convicted of the crime 3. That his name is on the Ministry of State payroll with a monthly pay of USD5,000.00 (five thousand United States Dollars); and 4. That you have evidence to substantiate all the above allegations The September 18th 2014 Press Conference/briefing as mentioned supra has exposed our client to public ridicule as same was broadcast on Sky FM on September 19, 2014 as well as reported in other print and electronic media, in that, said diabolical press conference contains allegations of criminal acts of theft as well as terrorism with international implications, among others, against our client, with malicious, scandalous and sinister motive on the part of you without any opportunity granted our client to address himself to such unfounded allegations made against him. Our client has also intimated to us that notwithstanding the foregoing and being that you are a member of the House of Representatives, he has written Hon. J. Alex Tyler, Speaker of the House of Representatives, to officially intervene by initiating a process that would convince you to make public all the pieces of evidence you claim to be in your possession in connection to the allegations you have spread in the public, but to no avail to date; copy of said letter is in our possession. The purpose of this letter is to demand you to unconditionally retract your defamatory statements/comments made during your press conference, implicating our client, Mr. Mamadee S. Diakite, in the alleged acts of criminality within the period of one week as of the date of receipt of this communication. This letter serves your sufficient notice to act as demanded and failure to do same will leave us no alternative but to advise our client to seek legal redress.
