THE MISSION OF THE TWELVE LK 9:1-6 Jesus summoned the twelve & gave them power & authority over all demons & to cure diseases& he sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God & to heal the sick.He said to them,"Take nothing for the journey,neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food,nor money,& let no one take a second tunic.Whatever house you enter,stay there & leave from there.And for those who do not welcome you,when you leave that town,shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them".Then they set out & went from village to village proclaiming the good news & curing diseases everywhere. REFLECTION: Jesus gives the Twelve authority over all demons & to cure diseases.Then he sends them to proclaim the kingdom of God & to heal the sick.And also give these powers, & greater ones,to his church.Priest & bishops have the power to forgive sins.In baptism,ministers of the church,& even ordinary Christians( (in emergencies),can bring to birth to eternal life those whom they baptize. But in the church,powers & authority are given for the service of human beings & the glorification of God.They are not given for self-aggrandizement.A person who receives the gift of healing may end up hiling ng hiling( asking& asking for things). THOSE WHO RECEIVE GREAT POWER MUST ALSO SERVE GREATLY.
