THE Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, on Monday dismissed - TopicsExpress

THE Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, on Monday dismissed criticisms trailing the imposition of N1,000 processing fee on applicants seeking recruitment into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Fielding questions from State House correspondents in Abuja on Monday, he argued that the criticisms were misplaced as the service has not done anything out of the ordinary. He said that the NIS was determined to ensure transparency in the exercise following controversy arising from its previous recruitment exercises, noting that the need for transparency necessitated the engagement of consultants to carry out the recruitment. Moro said: Maybe for the umpteenth time, I will let you know that some of these criticisms are misplaced, misguided and borne out of misinformation and clear lack of understanding of the situation in the Nigerian Immigration Service. I have promised Nigerians that in the face of the controversy that trailed the last immigration recruitment exercise, we are going to enthrone a more transparent and cost effective system. This is what we have done. What we have done has passed through the processes that are required to engage an external consultant in processing the applications of these intending recruits and of course, you know that from time on a monthly basis, the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Navy have been engaged in this e-recruitment portal and I dont see anything that is exceptional in the situation in the Nigerian Immigration Service And this is what I want Nigerians to know that today, the army recruits, the air force recruits, the navy recruits, the police recruits, virtually on a monthly basis and they charge a token amount of money for portals and I want Nigerians to also cross check the amount of money that is demanded by other agencies to access these portals which is a minimum of N2,000. But of course, because we want to follow due process, we consulted with the Federal Character Commission, we sought advice from various other agencies that have been engaged in this exercise before and we engaged a consultant that had been involved in this exercise in the navy and the air force and we are not doing anything extraordinary.
