THE NATURE AND GUARANTEE OF THE HEW COVENANT (Jeremiah 31:35-37) The new covenant promises to create a new heart within us. This is done through the new birth (John 3). When unsaved people approach God through the new birth (see John 3). When unsaved people approach God accepts the terms of the covenant, god gives them new lives and writes his law on their hearts. Renewal of the heart brings about deliverance from sin corruption, and death; it also prepares people for the gift of eternal life. Christians will have new hearts and a desire to live lives that are pleasing to God. their new hearts and minds will stir them to love God and to obey Him. As Ezekiel and Joel prophesied, the Spirit of god will do the work of God in our hearts ( see Ezek. 36:25 -28; Joel 2:28-32). The Spirit of God will convict all believers of sin. The gift of the Spirit is, perhaps, the key difference between the old and new covenants. The new covenant offers forgiveness of sin. God promised that under the new covenant, Israel would always be with Him. The Scriptures give assurance of eternal life through the new covenant, and the New Testament gives the promise of eternal life to both Jews and Gentiles, As children to God, we have His guarantee and promise that one day we will live forever with Him.
