THE NATURE OF THE OLD MAN “Do not lie one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him” (Colossians 3:9-10) The devil is older than God who created him: The oldest man ever in the bible was not Methuselah as many thought, but rather it is the Devil: The Devil is the oldest man in the Bible. He is so old and cunning, which is why he is called that old serpent (Revelation 20:2): Indeed serpents are dangerous and subtle, but older serpents are more dangerous and subtle. Therefore, beware of that old serpent who knows how to shed its skins. It is amazing that God who created all things and was before all things is not old, but Lucifer who is the Devil is very much older than his creator, and older than all men: Worse still is the fact that many men are now older than God, even though they were created in the image of God. Are you an old man? Not old by reason of age, but old by reason of lies and corruption. The reason Satan is older than God is not because of age, but because of lies and corruption: 1. God is the ancient of days, yet he is the Newest among all things by reason of Truth and Love; and, 2. Satan is short of days relative to God, yet he is the oldest among all things by reason of lies and corruption. Therefore, the Old man is known and made by lies – Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44). When God said, “Put off the old man” he mean you should put off lies and falsehood: For the old man is corrupt by deceitful lusts: As it is written, “If so be that you have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: “That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.” (Ephesians 4:21-25) 1. To cast down that old serpent from heaven is to cast out from heaven he that deceives the whole world with lies according to Revelation 12:9, and: 2. To put off the old man from our nature is to put off lies according to Colossians 3:9. Therefore, to have the old man dwelling in a man is to have the man believing and speaking lies; and to have the new man dwelling in a man is to have the man believing and speaking the Truth. “The world cannot receive the Spirit of Truth, because it neither sees him nor knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.” (John 14:9). We are sanctified by the Spirit of Truth (2 Thessalonians 2:13): The Word of God is truth (John 17:17), the Blood of Jesus is truth, the Water of Jesus is truth and the Spirit of Jesus is Truth (1 John 5:6). Lying and deception is the spiritual way of getting old, and liars are the oldest in the spiritual: But that which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away (Hebrews 8:13). You must therefore, differentiate both.
