THE NIGERIAs ELECTIONS 2015: FOR THE ATTENTION OF PRESIDENT JONATHAN/PDP, GEN.BUHARI/APC, POLICE/IG, SSD/INEC AND ELECTORATES AND ALL OTHER DEMOCRATIC STAKEHOLDERS IN NIGERIA ABSTRACT OR IDEA BEHIND THE WRITING AND FREE, FAIR, CREDIBLE, VIOLENCE FREE AND INTERNATIONALLY ACCEPTABLE ELECTIONS OF 2015 BY ABBATI BAKO,psc,UK President Jonathan must be commended for the promise he recently made to ensure free, fair, credible and acceptable elections to be conducted in Nigeria in 2015. And again, this has been welcomed by the main opposition party APC. The question of what triggers election violence in Nigeria has been in the minds of experts and researchers in the management of elections. The issue has become chronic and endemic in recent times. This necessitates the need to investigate fully the cause(s) of the matter. The North western part of Nigeria, which is the most populous with over 18m registered voters, was cross sectionally examined by way of personal interview and questionnaire procedures. The present study identifies that democratic election in Nigeria has been thwarted by incessant violence. Government officials including the electoral commission, security under the mobilization of contestants and ruling party share the greater blame. Part of the proactive factors included effort to mutilate, mar, rig or annul elections for the benefit of incumbent or other contestants. The electorate who are the governed and with high majority population wise were subjected to all sorts of brutality leading to destruction of their life and properties by the bandits and even security personnel, thus triggering violence. The effort of the judiciary is still below expectation in ensuring fair judgment. Conclusively, the cross-section of people in North western Nigeria maintained beyond reasonable doubt that past democratic elections in Nigeria had been linked with violence that could be regarded as chronic and refractory to treatment and control. But this long and time consuming research will inform the democratic stakeholders in Nigeria why our democracy has a link with violence and what triggers the violence and what will be the way forward to solve the problems (but experts assert that democracy has no link with violence and this means that democracies never fight one another). Must we fight to win election? To be continued (this writing will take several weeks for the benefit of our democratic dispensation in Nigeria) Abbati Bako,MA,psc, bsis, mti,Kent,UK ( Political Analyst and Consultant IPRC)
