THE PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE - 10/23/2014 Headed up toward Oracle, AZ., to view todays solar eclipse. Seeing was excellent and steady. Rule number one - never set up to observe during the day, next to a cattle pasture. After taking a bath with insect repellant, I was still eaten alive! The eclipse started at 2:28pm MST. About forty percent of the Sun was covered by the New Moon. Maximum coverage occurred at 3:42pm MST. If you look close ( in the larger photo ), you can see crater rims and low lying areas on the Moons limb. (edge) All photos were taken with the 4 inch diameter telescope.
