THE PASSION AND PRIORITY OF PHILIP Acts 8: 5; 15: 36; John 12: 32; Matt. 9: 36, 14: 14, 15: 32 Philip the Evangelist was a man full of passion and zeal for the lost souls in Samaria. “then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ unto them” Acts 8: 5. Philip went down alone to the city of Samaria, nobody accompanied him, no usher, no chorister, and no prayer warrior went down with him. He went to Samaria all alone, though he knew there would be challenges on the way, he firmly prepared his mind on the task ahead which is to convert the lost souls in Samaria. His priority was to preach Christ. This was his main motive of going down to Samaria. When he got there, he preaches Christ and not any man. Philip’s message was centralised on Christ and his sacrificial death. He lifted Christ up in his message and Christ confirmed his ministry by drawing all the Samaritans unto himself, John 12: 32. The life of Philip the Evangelist was characterised by His love for the Samaritans Acts 8: 5 Love for Jesus and the great commission Matt. 28: 18-20; Mark 16: 15-20 Passion, Zeal and commitment Compassion for the Lost Friendliness Knowledge of the Scriptures Acts 8: 32-35 All these qualities of Philip must be seen in any Evangelist who wants to be effective on the mission field. Evangelists don’t sit, they go. The priority of a soul winner is to preach Christ and not to discuss politics, fashion, soccer, or any form of religion. Let everything you say revolve around Christ and bring the sinner to conviction. Never you leave the sinner the same way you met him as Philip clearly demonstrated. The Samaritans forsook their evil practices after they heard the messages of Philip. Philip was motivated to preach the gospel to them from - A sense of Discipline - A sense of Duty - A sense of Devotion Discipline says, “I have to do it”; Duty says, “I ought to do it”; Devotion says, “I love to do it”
