THE PRAYER OF A MAN WHO WAS NOT RESPECTED And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 Jabez knew how he was born and how his mother had suffered. She called his name Jabez because of problems. When he knew how his mother had suffered because of him, he then knew that without God he could not rise. It seems that his brothers treated him badly. There was something that provoked him to seek God and he called to the God of Israel. He said God (1) bless me; (2) enlarge my territory; give me more places; (3) that your hand be with me; (4) keep from evil that I may not cause pain, that I may not be in trouble. The Bible says God granted him what he had requested. Jabez became more respected than his brethren. Are you a person of lower standards; or you are a despised person who is not respected among his brethren, or in your family; or in your church? Pray like Jabez. Specify your needs and make them very clear before God. Pray a strong prayer and God will answer that prayer. Jabez prayed and God gave him what he had requested for. You too can receive the answer if you come to God in the way Jabez came to Him and pray the way he prayed. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.
