THE PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES FOR THE EMERGENCY LOCK DOWN DAYS TO FIGHT EBOLA. .Below are main points of the draft programme revealed by the head of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) this week for the fight against Ebola.. (1)18th THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 2014- Eve of the Lock down - A)Presidential speech to the the nation providing an overview of the Ebola situation and governments response. .B)Presidents official declaration of a sit at home for family reflection,prayers and visit of Ebola campaign teams. C)Presidents speech replicated by council chairmen, paramount and town chiefs at chiefdom level. 2)19th -21st September - team visit ( 3 persons) to engage families through a six step approach inspire,listen, acknowledge,empathize,and call to action. Total team of 7000 strong team trained for the programme. Have viewed the above programme and in the interest of the nation the following programme of operations are proposed for the Emergency Ebola Lock down days 19th Sept to 21st September 2014 .The objective is to provide inputs for consideration of stakeholders including the EOC ,government ,and the populace to enhance work and productive impacts to meet the challenges of fighting ebola and its eventual destruction. MY PROPOSALS FOR THE PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES. Day 1 - FRIDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 2014 6..30: am to 12 Mid day- ● Replication of the presidential speech in the vernacular languages through the Network of radio stations( this method was effective during general elections to announce results.) ●Announcement of main rules and regulations to be observed by the populace nation wide through network of radio stations in main national languages including Krio.,Kono ,Susu ,Koranko ,Fula .and Madingo. ●Sensitisation /engagement of families and home visits country wide. ●Ambulance service arrangements and readiness in all regions for emergency response( include additional emergency transport facilities with support from the private sector and populace on a voluntary basis. Mid day- 6 pm ●Continuation of home visits by health workers,tracers and health researchers in teams to record valuable information and inputs from households. ●Emergency readiness for ambulance service 6 PM to MID NIGHT ●Information dissemination of main outcomes of day 1 proceedings of l exercises in all vernacular languages. ●National update in overall situation of the Ebola containment and news about successes and failures. Mid NIGHT - 6 AM ●Activation of night time helpline to respond to Ebola emergencIes and other health related emergencies. ●Operations of all night security patrol to ensure compliance with the Lock down rules and response to security help line issues. DAY 2- SATURDAY 20th SEPTEMBER 6,30 AM- to MID -DAY ●Sensitisation /engagement of families and home visits country wide. ●Ambulance service arrangements and readiness in all regions for emergency response( include additional emergency transport facilities with support from the private sector and populace on a voluntary basis ●Participation of emergency lock down trained sanitation and cleaning teams comprising of volunteers and medical service ,the fire force and relevant agencies , MAC P, NGOs and the private community to clean and fumigate strategic buildings and work places of the technical work force of the state .Targeting isolation centres, hospitals, vehicles & main parks, markets street and domestic drainage, hotels and guest houses to reduce surface and location hazards of Ebola transmission. Mid -DAY to 6 PM ●Sensitisation /engagement of families and home visits country wide. ●Ambulance service arrangements and readiness in all regions . ●Participation of accredited teams for rubbish and garbage disposal for Ebola lock down comprising of government,volunteers,city council and Masada waste disposal units. 6.30 PM - 12 MID NIGHT ●Information dissemination of main outcomes of day 2 proceedings of the Lock down exercises in all languages. ●National update in overall situation of the Ebola containment and news about successes and failures. MIDNIGHT - 6 AM ●Activation of night time helpline for Ebola emergencies and other health emergencies. ●Operations of Security forces all night patrol to ensure compliance with Lock down rules and response to security help line requests. Day 3 -SUNDAY 21st SEPTEMBER 6.30 am to 12 Mid day ● Sensitisation /engagement of families and home visits country wide. ●Ambulance service arrangements and readiness in all regions . ●Finalise cleaning /sanitation and waste disposal exercise ●Ambulance and security service in active operation 12 .30 PM - 6PM ●Finalise Sensitisation / engagement of families and home visits country wide. ●Ambulance service in readiness and in active service ● Finalise cleaning and garbage disposal exercise 6PM - 12 MID NIGHT ●Information dissemination of main outcomes of day 3 proceedings of exercises in all languages. ●National update in overall situation of the Ebola containment and news about successes and failures. ●Compilation of lessons learnt and revealtions for a Road map to tackle Ebola. MID NIGHT - 6 am ●Activation of night time helpline for Ebola emergencies and other health emergencies. ●Operations of Security forces all night patrol to ensure compliance with Lock down rules and response to security help line requests. It is expected that this format and initiatives mentioned here could be further developed for the Lock down exercise to be beneficial to our national effort against Ebola,My appeal goes to friends on face book presently in governance and part of the EOC,the media especially the Association of Journalist are encouraged to put reasonable resources ,participation,, and further relevant inputs to make the exercise worthwhile. Government should be be receptive to meaningful contribution. s to make us succeed speedily against Ebola.God bless Sierra Leone.
