***THE REST OF SALVATION*** Matthew 11:28-30 KJV Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Jesus tells the wearied laborer, come unto Me and I will give you rest. We can find rest when we are no longer wrestling as enemies with God, when we have been reconciled to Him by the blood of Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross. Every person who has never come to Christ and made peace with God is an enemy of God. Coming to God by way of the cross, our tempest tossed souls can find rest. Often the labor of man is his attempt to go about establishing his own righteousness. Works of all kinds are practiced through religious rituals in a vain attempt to please God. Meanwhile, God says our very best righteous acts are pure filth in His sight. What pleases God is our realization that our laboring for salvation amounts to zero, and in doing so, we turn to Him, the only One capable of providing us with the righteousness required to gain entrance into His presence. True rest and quietness of the soul comes when we understand that Christs righteousness must be imputed to our heavenly record and no longer do we have to try to measure up. Once we, by faith, accept the righteousness that God provides for us, our labor ceases and we find rest that only Jesus Christ can give.
