THE ROLLING STONES “Mother’s Litttle Helper” (from the album Aftermath, 1966) Mothers Little Helper is a song by the English rock and roll band The Rolling Stones. It first appeared as the opening track to the United Kingdom version of their 1966 album Aftermath. It was released as a single in the United States (1966). The song deals with the sudden popularity of Valium (diazepam), a mildtranquilizer, among housewives and the ease of obtaining it from their GPs. Mick Jagger: Its about drug dependence, but in a sort of like spoofy way. As a songwriter, I didnt really think about addressing things like that. It was just every day stuff that you Id observe and write about. Its what writing is for really. There is a sort of naivety, but theres also a lot of humor in those songs. Theyre a lot based on humor. It was almost like a different band, a different world, a different view when we wrote them. Line-up / Musicians: Mick Jagger - lead vocals, percussion Keith Richards - guitars, backing vocals Brian Jones - 12-string guitar Bill Wyman - bass guitar Charlie Watts - drums
