THE SACRED LAND OF SHIRDI Swami Ramdas was a well-known devotee of God. After receiving initiation of Ram Mantra from his father, Swami Ramdas renounced the worldly life in 1922 and wandered as a mendicant Sadhu all over India and in the Himalayas in a frenzy of Godintoxication with the holy and all powerful Ram Mantra ever on the tongue and with God as his holy refuge and guide. His was the competent surrender to the will of God. Many years of wandering life brought him finally back to south Kanera. Having attained spiritual liberation and God vision, he started his mission to guide and serve mankind in order to awaken it to the awareness of God. He founded an Ashram named as ANANDARSHRAM. The writing and speeches of Swami Ramdas are remarkable and come from the deeps of Reality and therefore go straight to the heart. In 1954 he went on a world tour and hundreds of his devotees had a chance to come into close contact with him. He attained Mahanirvan in July, 1963. In his famous book “GOD EXPERIENCE” Swami Ramdas has described SAI BABA of Shirdi as a JIWAN MUKTA. On page 206 he has written as follows : “What is felt behind after a Jiwan Mukta drops his body … SAI BABA’S Samadhi is in Shirdi. Thousands go there to have his darshan from various parts of India. They go to the place in stream. What is it that draws them there ? There must be some power present where his samadhi is. Even he is alive, a Jiwan Mukta has no individuality. He has realized that he is the all pervading Atman, and he is present everywhere. Why is it then that a particular place is considered sacred ? Is still permeating the place where the body is buried or cremated ? Yes, Each particle of the Saint’s body either in the form of dust or ashes has great divine power in it. And that power radiates light and joy to a responsive heart and elevates it by filling it with ecstacy and peace. When we go to the Samadhi of the Saint. We say we feel some peace-giving vibrations there, which are not found elsewhere. Is it due to a power revealed thee out of the material remains of the Mahatma or is it due to the faith of the disciples ? If anybody goes there without faith, he does not feel the vibrations. So both the power and the faith must be there before the soothing vibrations are felt. A Jiwanmukta’s body is full of divine light, power and joy and after he sheds it, his power remains in every particle of its ashes or dust. They give out spiritual radiance. That is why SAMADHI is worshipped. A spiritual power is present there. Before it whatever you pray for, is granted. Many thousands go there for material benefit and get it. SHIRDI was an unknown place, before SAI BABA. Now thousands are going there for the darshan of SAI BABA’S Samadhi. It it the Bhakta’s devotion that makes the power manifest in all its glory.”
